Zoltan Szabo and Jerry Gain taste a Greek white and an Italian red.
Sommelier about town Zoltan Szabo stopped by GFR’s Summerhill campus recently with a couple of wines and their importer, Jerry Gain from Riverdale Wines. Riverdale Wines is an interesting company: Jerry got into the wine agency business as an offshoot of his travel business, A Perfect Tour, and the wines he brings into the Ontario market are from properties he also leads small bespoke tours to across the Mediterranean. Jerry and Zoltan brought a stunning white from the Isle of Santorini, made from its signature grape, the 2015 Artemetis Karamolegos Assyrtiko PDO ($36). This was followed up by an equally remarkable red from Piedmont: the 2015 Poderi Rosso Giovanni ‘Carlinet’ Barbera d’Asti Superiore DOCG ($43).
