2008 Robert Oatley Pinot Grigio South Australia LCBO Vintages #159806 $17.95
Those of you who are familiar with my palate may find this a rather strange choice as wine of the week, but I have to say that I was most impressed with this wine. The purity of fruit is really quite outstanding. The wine is at once refreshing and satisfying, something that one rarely finds in a wine, especially a Pinot Grigio, at this price point.
Showing a lovely pink tinge in the glass, the nose is all super-ripe fruit, with perhaps just a hint of rhubarb and spices. On the palate the wine shows considerable weight and has a most pleasant texture that may surprise those familiar with many of the lighter styles of this grape from North Eastern Italy. Undoubtedly a very contemporary take on Pinot Grigio I feel that this wine over-delivers and should delight those looking for a reasonably inexpensive Spring/Summer sipper. Thanks for the great review. We strive to over-deliver with all of our wines. Cheers!
Not quibbling with your recommendation, just the price tag. $17.95 for an Aussie PG? Is that a misprint?
If I may, I think Jamie’s point is that this is a really exceptional Aussie PG. I think would be a great wine for a blind tasting, actually. – Malcolm
