Rogers & Company presents Établissements J.P. Moueix’s 2015 Bordeaux.
Établissements J.P. Moueix 2015 Bordeaux ($17.00, LCBO #516765) is available in limited quantities at the LCBO Vintages.
“The 2015 Jean-Pierre Moueix Bordeaux Rouge is outstanding and that’s not a word I use lightly. Everyone in the room applauded its quality and everyone thought it absurdly underpriced. A blend of 80 per cent Merlot and 20 per cent Cabernet Franc from a first-rate vintage, it’s fabulously concentrated with blackcurrants, blackberries, herbs and spice. The finish goes on forever and is just so damn juicy. [It was] the wine of the tasting and one to be savoured by the fire in a winter wind-blown country pub.” – Jonathan Ray, The Spectator, October 2017
Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix has specialized in the fine wines of Bordeaux since 1937, and today owns and distributes a number of the region’s notable Châteaux. (That’s the dashing Jean-Pierre in the photo below. Based in Pomerol, some would argue that he put the region on the map.) For 80 years, they have been committed to sourcing the best fruit from local growers to produce wines that are elegant, balanced, and reflective of the distinctive terroirs of this renowned region. Jean-Pierre’s son, Christian, led Château Pétrus for 38 years. The family’s reach stretches as far as California, where Christian and Edouard, the third generation, produce esteemed wines you might know by name: Dominus, Ulysses, Napanook.
Personally selected by Christian and Edouard Moueix, this wine is composed primarily of Merlot from Bordeaux’s Right Bank with a touch of Cabernet Franc (80% and 20%, respectively). The wine was blended and aged in the historic Quai de Priourat cellars in Libourne, benefitting from the care and expertise of the Jean-Pierre Moueix technical teams.
The distinctive elegance and complexity of this wine is in part due to that Right Bank Merlot grown in the appellation’s clay and limestone soils: the limestone provides elegance, structure, and minerality, while the clay brings depth, richness, and generosity. The region’s unique soil structure and microclimate are expressed in the finished wine’s textural finesse and aromatic complexity. A vintage characterized by heat and sun, the 2015 releases are exceptional for their fruit, depth, and balance. Vibrant ruby red, the intense, complex nose presents notes of cherry, strawberry, and light tobacco. The palate is powerful and inviting with smooth, silky tannins. A very satisfying expression of Bordeaux with an unbeatable price tag.
