It was through a completely chance meeting that I was introduced to Enrica Rocca and Marloes Knippenberg, a couple of delightful ladies who together run three extremely highly regarded cooking schools in Venice (Italy), London (UK), and Capetown (South Africa). The two were recently in town to promote their new book, Venice On A Plate – And What A Plate at Midtown’s veritable hub of all things culinary and cultural, Grano.

I had somehow managed to mix up my dates, arriving there some 24 hours early for a Sicilian wine tasting, only to find myself at another wine event entirely. Looking a little bewildered (not to mention thirsty), I was immediately whisked off into the crowd by Grano’s ever-consummate host and social ringmaster Roberto Dante Martella, where he made me acquainted with our visitors from Veneto.

After sharing a good few glasses of wine (and much highly colourful conversation) they agreed to meet me a couple of days later for lunch and an interview at Jamie Kennedy’s Gilead location.
