2017 Loveblock “Love Letter Estate Blend” Marlborough, New Zealand (Alcohol 12.8%, Residual Sugar 7 g/L) LCBO Vintages $23.95 (750ml bottle)
Having had quite the crush on the regular Loveblock Sauvignon Blanc for years now, it was a delight to be introduced to their new LCBO exclusive Sauvignon bottling, Love Letter, by none other than the lovely woman herself, Erica Crawford and Toronto’s New Zealand show just the other day, and ever since have been unable to get this rather splendid track by Metronomy out of my head.
On to the wine… Tasting the very same wine again this morning, it’s just as mouth wateringly delicious as it was on Wednesday. The complex and expressive bouquet is positively bursting with gorgeous aromatics of crisp, freshly-cut green pepper (direct from the fridge), ripe orchard stone fruits, freshly-mown lawn, and a seriously sublime floral character. In the mouth the palate is certainly mouthfilling and decidedly textural, but with a brisk, whip-smart acid profile, and a tingly mineral-edged finish.
With part barrel ferment (neutral French oak), and partial malolactic fermentation, the Love Letter blend is assembled post-fermentation from the very best parcels of fruit from Loveblock farm estate, leading to an delightful exercise in equilibrium.
Released tomorrow, the Saturday before Mother’s Day, this exquisite wine would make for the perfect bottle to enjoy with your Mum. Gone on… treat her… and yourself. You won’t regret it. I promise.
