NV Cantina di Soliera Lambrusco di Sorbara DOC, Emilia-Romagna, Italy (Alcohol 11%, Residual Sugar 25 g/l) Noble Estates $19.99 (750ml bottle)
Made from the prized Lambrusco Sorbara grape, sourced from a plot of 50-year-old ungrafted vines, this wine makes for a terrific introduction to the world of Lambrusco.
Pouring a very appealing light pink in the glass, the nose is vibrant and wildly fruity and floral, with bags of ripe cherries and violets. In the mouth there’s a subtle effervescene that serves to enhance the redcurrant, cranberry, raspberry tartness. This mouthwateringly juicy acidity is what makes this wine so damn appealing. The red fruit finish is delicate and yet persistent. It’s the perfect wine to crack open for a picnic, especially as we are seeing all this gorgeous warm weather.
This co-operative produced Lambrusco is an absolute delight to drink, and a steal at under $20. Just be sure to order a few bottles, as at 11% alcohol it goes down incredibly quickly.
