Woodman Wines & Spirits presents a Tuscan treasure to look for at Vintages…
Toscolo Chianti Classico DOCG 2017
LCBO #19521 | $21.95
The Draw:
Twelve months of barrique aging introduces a healthy dose of vanilla and leather to the classic black cherry, violet, and dried herbs. Round and juicy to catch the casual drinker, with desirable acidity and tannin integration to turn the heads of aficionados.
The Winery:
‘Toscolo’ is a salute to all things Tuscan – indeed, the name is the Renaissance Italian phrase for ‘Tuscan boy’. Made by lauded oenologist Franco Bernabei with importer Neil Empson, this bottling is a textbook expression of Chianti Classico. Pulling fruit from a variety of subsoils and elevations (820-1480 feet), vines range from 10-40 years old.
Pairings and Tips:
With a few years of aging under its belt, Toscolo is an excellent holiday-ready wine. Made in a modern style for easy drinking, you don’t have to decant the wine but it’s not a faux pas if you do. Excellent with most family/friend gatherings, as the natural acidity plays well across the gamut of dining options.
