THE DELI DUEL KICKS OFF JULY 25!!!
Toronto‘s top delis vie for smoked meat supremacy
in support of The Stop Community Food Centre
The battle for smoked meat supremacy is about to heat up. Three of Toronto’s top delis-Caplansky’s, Goldin’s and The Stockyards-are going head-to-head (or, dare we say, brisket-to-brisket) in a competition to produce the best smoked meat sandwich in the city and raise funds for The Stop Community Food Centre.
One-and-a-half ounce sandwiches from all three delis will be available for purchase ($3 each) and every attendee will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite. The winning deli will receive the much-coveted Deli Duel trophy and, of course, bragging rights. Lemonade and iced tea will be available ($3), as well as Mill Street and Steam Whistle beer ($5).
All proceeds from the event go towards The Stop’s innovative programs to fight hunger, build hope and inspire change.
Where: Wychwood Barns, 601 Christie St. (Barn #1)
When: Sunday, July 25, 1 to 5 pm.
How much: Free. (Food and drink available for purchase; all proceeds go to The Stop.)
About The Stop: Located in Toronto’s west end, The Stop Community Food Centre works to increase access to food in a manner that maintains dignity, builds health and community and challenges inequality. From its origins as one of Canada’s first food banks, The Stop has blossomed into a thriving community hub where neighbours participate in a broad range of programs that provide healthy food, foster social connections, build food skills and promote engagement in civic issues. Underlying all of The Stop’s efforts is the view that food should be a basic human right.
