I recently had the pleasure of visiting Guyana to study El Dorado‘s famed rum production facility on the bank of the Demerara River just outside of the country’s capital Georgetown.
This spectacular trip was expertly organised by certified Good Food Fighters (and all round good guys) Woodman Wines and Spirits along with Demerara Distillers and was one of the most eyeopening expeditions I have ever been on… expect a detailed piece in the coming weeks.
One of the components that made the trip so very special was the entertaining and educational company of Edmonton’s Chip Dykstra AKA “The Rum Howler“.
The Rum Howler has a personal blog where he specialises in reviews of rum, his favoured spirit.
The Rum Howler’s depth of knowledge in this field is second to none and I certainly learned a few things from him in the short time we spent together.
Check out The Howler’s blog when you have a chance… find it here.

Edinburgh-born/Toronto-based Sommelier, consultant, writer, judge, and educator Jamie Drummond is the Director of Programs/Editor of Good Food Revolution… AaaaaaaaaWhhhhhhhhhoooooooo!
That was an ABSOLUTELY entertaining video. I’m pleased to know the Rum Howler is from my own town of Edmonton. After just having returned from Cuba, I was actually looking for a review of Legendario rum. Not sure how I ended up here, but thanks for a fun few minutes. I really enjoyed that.
I have never enjoyed a review as much as I have yours of The Botanist Gin while tasting it for the first time. Your are a very astute taster and a cunning linguist. I thank you. If there is a place to sign up, sign me up. Thank you, again.
