Chenin Blanc happens to be one of the first loves at The Case For Wine, here we offer two that couldn’t be more different.
Longavi wines is a collaboration between two eminent and multi-award winning winemaking friends from different continents, Chilean producer Julio Bouchon and South African winemaker David Nieuwoudt of Cederberg. The pair first teamed up in 2012 and continue pushing the boundaries, the two Winemakers have been producing inventive wines made from wild grapes (Pais) Chenin Blanc, Semillon & Cinsault.
This fabulous Chilean Chenin Blanc hails from the Colchagua Valley, it was fermented on its skins with wild yeasts in clay amphorae, aged on its lees and bottled unfined, unfiltered and unadulterated. This specimen bursts from the glass with fascinating notes of beeswax, narcissus, minerality, grapefruit and soft fleshy yellow fruit. An beautifully intriguing wine that is quickly becoming a new classic.
Decant for an hour. The 2017 vintage was awarded Chilean Wine of the Year by Tim Atkin: Master of Wine.

Domaine Bernard Baudry is one of the reference estates for top-quality traditional Chinon, they are masters of terroir-driven wine-making in the Loire Valley.
Baudry’s rare Chinon Blanc hails from just 0.8 hectares of vines propagated with cuttings from the vineyards of Domaine Huet. Matthieu Baudry naturally ferments the wine in tank before aging in old 500-litre barrels and lets full malolactic go through, although the wine is piercing and electric, 2018 was a great harvest and the wine should be rationed. Elevated aromas of oily lemon and crushed chalk. The palette is dynamite, full of tension, power and poise.
