The last time we spoke with Winemaker Ian Hongell was back in 2012 when he was heading up Peter Lehmann and hosting a superb tasting at Toronto’s Edulis restaurant.
Today he’s Chief Winemaker at the mighty Torbreck Vintners, a position he has held since 2017.
This week we sit down with Ian to talk about the recently released 2018 Torbreck “Old Vines” Grenache/Mataro/Shiraz, and it’s a mighty fine wine for $24.95.
Over the years, I have always viewed Ian as a “straight shooter” and so I was intrigued as to what he felt old vines bring to the wine; his answer may surprise you.
