Carlo Schiopetto’s upcoming trip to Toronto on Monday, September 13 has a lot of people talking. Le Sommelier Inc., Exclusive Wine Agents and Zucca Trattoria have put together a fabulous five-course, Friulan-inspired menu, with five legendary Schiopetto wines to match. Carlo Schiopetto, the son of Friuli’s founding father of modern winemaking, will be enjoying his first trip to Toronto. His trip is already set to be a whirlwind, with a trade tasting during the day, the winemaker dinner at Zucca in the evening, and a quick tour of Niagara the following morning, leaving for Montreal that afternoon.
Schiopetto is one of Collio’s oldest wineries, and Carlo’s father Mario started a winemaking revolution in Friuli when he set up shop there in the mid 1960s. Vigorous vineyard management, stainless steel fermentation, and white wines made with a skin contact and extended less contact, their wines are regarded by many as some of the finest in Italy.
