“The 2018 J. Lohr Hilltop Cabernet Sauvignon is effusive with fresh varietal aromas of black cherry and hints of toasted pastry and baking spice on the nose. Dense and soft on the palate. Elegant layers of black and red currants leave a bright finish.” – Brenden Wood, red winemaker. 93% Cab. Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, 2% Malbec
Food pairing: Delicious with rosemary-seasoned ribeye and garlic roasted potatoes with parsnips and fennel.
97 Pts & Double Gold – American Fine Wine Competition 2021
Susana Balbo Signature Barrel Fermented Torrontes 2020 +384339 $21.95
Golden colour with bright glints. The nose is perfumed, with aromas of lychee, lemon peel and citrus notes and elegant reminiscences of flowers. The mouth displays a harmonic combination of balanced and intense fruit flavours. This wine has good, round body, with a silky texture.
Food pairing: Fish and shellfish. Spicy and aromatic Indian, Chinese and Thai cuisine also go very well with this variety.
94 Pts – Tim Atkin, MW, Argentina Report 2021
“Susana Balbo knows how to get the best out of Torrontés, having started her distinguished career working with the variety in Salta. This superb example is perfumed and pithy, with stylish new oak fermentation, lemongrass, lime and wet stone flavours and layers of complexity that are rare in the variety. 2022-26.”
Chateau Peyros Vieilles Vignes Madiran 2017 +234997 $22.95
Red cherry robe, intense and brilliant. The nose is now well opened with intense notes of fruits (cherry, raspberry, black-currant) with notes of vanilla and lightly toasted. The mouth is both powerful and elegant. Tannins are present and well coated. On the palate, fruit aromas are really dominating with a long finish. 80% Tannat, 20% Cabernet Franc
Food pairing: roasted meat, (lamb, beef), saucy meat, spicy beef tartar, duck breast.
93 Pts & Cellar Selection – Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, April 1, 2021
“This rich, wood-aged wine comes from 40- to 50-year-old vines on an estate at the southern limit of the Madiran appellation. It brings together dense tannins and old-vine concentration. The acidity, black-plum flavors and tannins will keep this wine developing for many years. Drink from 2023.”
