You may not know, but the LCBO holds an award ceremony every year called the Elsie Awards, a.k.a., ‘The Elsies’, with this year marked the 30th anniversary of the ceremony. These awards recognize wine and spirit producers, Ontario wine agents, LCBO staff, and outstanding contributors to the industry.  The awards always land in the fall after the busy summer season and this year’s winners of Best New Product were (combined) the One Pound Per Acre Chardonnay and One Pound Per Acre Shiraz from South Australia!

The One Pound Per Acre team was ecstatic to hear this. The winery had been founded on land bought at the price of one British pound per acre, so the idea of getting the most from your investment has always been a priority. The goal was always to make the best wine possible for the best price possible, while naming the project after the property’s original price tag to “stay grounded”, so to say. Being recognized for these efforts was icing on the cake after seeing how quickly Ontario consumers fell in love with the wines.

One Pound Per Acre Shiraz – $9.95 – #32829

This medium-bodied Shiraz is loaded with juicy blackberry and red plum notes, joined by pepper and spice though the mid-palate, helping complete the signature qualities of Aussie Shiraz.
