Now that things are settling down at the LCBO, we’re happy to announce our three NEW releases this month, two primed for your summer enjoyment, and one exceptionally rare 1974 vintage, celebrating a half century this year.

Read below for more details about these new releases, along with the LCBO links to purchase.

Weingut Loimer Grüner Veltliner 2022

“Despite the warmth of the 2022 vintage, Loimer’s classic Kamptal grüner is a model and marvel of freshness and balance, clocking in at just 12% alcohol with lovely, ripe, white-fleshed orchard fruit flavours and classic leguminous-lentil-like notes with a twist of white pepper. Length and depth are excellent in the category. Nothing more to say. Buy this, and lots of it, for summer sipping. Tasted July 2024. 91 points, John Szabo MS, WineAlign

Bodegas Peique Godello 2023

Bodegas Peique is a family winery currently owned and operated by Luis and Sagrario Peique and their children. The winery, which is located in Valtuille de Abajo, Bierzo, emerged in 1999 as a joint partnership of three generations of the Peique family, whose winemaking dates back to 1912. The current winemaker is Jorge Peique; Mar Peique serves as General Manager. Their vineyards are almost 100 years old and are planted with Godello and Mencía. After a few hours skin contact, this was fermented in stainless, where it rested on fine lees for 5 months. Very yellow fruited, with yellow plum and grapefruit over a fine waxen core, humming with a vibrant acidity.90 points, GismondiOnWine.com

Bodegas Toro Albalá Don PX Convento Seleccion 1974

Older doesn’t make it better. But when great age and great wine meet, there is little better in the wine world. This is a very sweet (500 g/l RS), very rare PX from Montilla. Whole bunches of PX were dried 8-10 days on mats, with 90 percent of the bunches flipped half way through. The bunches are pressed within pancakes of rusks to release their thick syrup. In the port wine style, distillate from the marc of the property is added to the fermenting must to bring it up to 18 degrees alcohol and killing off the remaining yeast, which rights the sugar levels as they are. The wine is left to settle in concrete for two years, after which it goes into barrel until just prior to bottling and release.

The incredibly aromatic and perfumed 1974 Don PX … had notes of honeycomb, rosemary honey and licorice with flavors of bitter chocolate, beeswax and cinnamon. It’s not too dense, and the sugar feels nicely integrated and more accessible in general. This was bottled in April 2017 with 450 grams of residual sugar.” 94 points, Luis Gutiérrez, RobertParker.com
