Monterra McLaren Vale Shiraz – $17.95 (Haut McLaren Vale) VINTAGES#: 477059 | 750 mL bottle Monterra’s wines are grown at an elevation of 350m – just shy of the highest hills at Ontario’s Mount St. Louis Moonstone ski resort – which is why the producer calls them ‘wines from way up.’ This Shiraz won the high honour of a Gold Medal at the 2016 China Wine & Spirits Awards. Expect blackberry pie and sweet milk chocolate flavours. “This sustainably produced McLaren Vale shiraz offers an engaging nose with both floral and smoky cedar notes. A compelling wine with a great deal of flavour and regional character for the price. Friendly with some heat on the palate but relativey dry and quite authentic. Bold and ripe but not jammy and offering solid complexity. Enjoyable now but can hold for 3-4 years due to an impressive structural component. Tasted January 2017.” www.winealign.com |
