Guy Fieri is not the only American restaurateur of note to visit Toronto this week. On Monday GwaiLo Pop-Up’s Nick Liu and Christina Kuypers played host to two of the leading chefs in the new Asian cuisine: Andy Ricker from Pok Pok and Danny Bowien from Mission Chinese Food. Interestingly, Ricker and Bowien share more than just a passion for the flavours of the East, they both began their successful and acclaimed restaurants as pop-ups: Ricker in Portland, Oregon and Bowien in San Francisco (both also run versions of their restaurants in Brooklyn). In the video below, shot as they prepped for their one-night-only collaborative dinner, the chefs talk about their beginnings and cooking styles.

Liu, Ricker and Bowien were joined in the kitchen by chefs Nuit Regular from Kao San Road, Cheska Ang from Actinolite and Robbie Hojilla from Mr. Bong’s Bar. The Five course meal was sold out and proceeds went in aid of The Stop Community Food Centre. The feast marked the last night of the Gwailo Pop-Up at Sen5es, but Kuypers told GFR that she and Liu are already planning a New Year’s eve event… stay tuned.
