Le Sommelier introduces a 90 point red for under $17 at the LCBO.

Junta winery

In this Saturday’s VINTAGES release, LCBO VINTAGES is featuring another great value red from Junta! Back in June, VINTAGES released the Junta Carménère Momentos Reserva 2014 into the market and as we suspected, it’s been a hit this summer. A tremendous value at $16.95, it pairs so well with grilled everything, good friends and a good book!

In this Saturday’s release, LCBO VINTAGES is featuring Junta’s 2014 Reserve Syrah Carménère, also a steal at $16.95. The wine has delicious, rich fruit, with verve and intensity. Wine writer David Lawrason seems to love the wine as much as we do, and rated it 90 points (review below).

Junta is young and dynamic winery, run by a young and dynamic team focused on delivering quality wines at affordable prices. All wines are hand-picked from their estate vineyards in Chile’s beautiful Curicó Valley. The Curicó Valley, which starts at the base of the Andes Mountains and extends to the Pacific coast, is alluvial in origin with loam-textured soils that change to deeper clay-loam closer to the coast. Its semi-arid Mediterranean climate enjoys an extended dry season, and the significant different between daytime and nighttime temperatures makes it the perfect climate for lush and fresh red wines.

This full-flavoured and full-bodied red is the perfect pairing for the summer months. It’s uncomplicated but rich in flavour, making it a great match for everything BBQ’d or just hanging out with friends. Enjoy!

Sincerely,

Bernard Stramwasser

Junta Momentos bottleJunta Momentos Reserve Syrah Carménère 2014

Review:

”This is an unusual blend of syrah (65%), carmenere (35%), and cabernet sauvignon (10%), and I like the resulting energy and complexity. Syrah pepper, meatiness and roasted coffee notes dominate the nose, with carmenere currants and tension kicking in on the palate. It’s medium-bodied, fairly dense and well balanced, with refined tannin. The length is very good to excellent. A successful and creative wine.”
