While they been a regular feature on the shelves of the LCBO for some time, revisiting the Montecillo Riojas recently I was pleasantly surprised to find the wine’s profiles had changed quite dramatically. The wines are now particularly vibrant and incredibly accessible. I was most intrigued by these most welcome changes and set off on a mission to discover what had been going on at Montecillo. Further exploration finds them to be, in many ways, staunchly traditional (100% Tempranillo) but without being in any way old-fashioned.
We sat down with sixth generation Rocio Osborne to discover a little about her family history, what drew her back to the world of wine after a career in finance, and what changes had happened at the winery since 2005.
