A few months ago, I had the pleasure of chatting with the wonderfully ebullient Liyana Wagner From Weingut Heinrich, Burgenland, Austria, at Toronto’s RAW Wine Fair.
Her enthusiasm is truly infectious, and tasting through the current Heinrich lineup alongside sommelier Christopher Sealy was one of the highlights of that day for me.
I’m no stranger to the wines of Weingut Heinrich, having private ordered many a case for the Jamie Kennedy Wine Bar over 15 years ago, but upon re-tasting the range for the first time in quite a few years, I detected a noticeable difference in direction and overall style.
I asked Liyana to explain what had been going on in the intervening years, and I’m certainly glad I made that inquiry…
