For quite some time now I have been singing the praises of the wines of Leaning Post, a range of exquisitely light and reserved Niagara bottlings guided by the hand of Winemaker Ilya Senchuk.
Unlike many of the wines Senchuck made previously during his stints with both Daniel Lenko and Foreign Affair, his Leaning Post vintages exhibit a definite old world sensibility and reserve, coupled with intriguing complexities that have year after year found great favour amongst many wine lovers.
Notwithstanding, Senchuk’s wines do tend to polarise the crowd, their extremely delicate nature and occasional funky notes certainly not appealing to everyone.
In search of the thought process that goes into making such fascinating and unique wines, we sat down with Senchuk over a couple of glasses of Pinot Noir…
