As the jovial Ian D’Agata, writer for both Decanter and Vinous, and author of the epic Native Wine Grapes Of Italy, sits down at Toronto’s Momofuku, all he wants to do is talk (and drink) Ontario wine. And today it happens to be a rather pleasant Cabernet Franc.
Here is a gentleman who spends each and every day traversing the globe tasting the very finest of its wines, and right now he’s giving me the Spanish inquisition about Ontario’s best Pinot Noirs.
“I need to know your opinion, Jamie… what do you think I should be pouring those people back in London? What do you feel are the very best Ontario Pinots…”
As I rhyme off my personal favourites, he listens intently, nodding in agreement with many of my suggestions, quizzically noting the names that are new to him.
Ian has a passion for Ontario wines that is a delight to behold, so much so that we just had to interrupt his tasting to get him on camera.
