Sean Kinghan and Laura Cleland open Hooked’s new 1246 Danforth location.
Kristin and Dan Donovan are thrilled to announce that the Hooked community is growing! While we have opened a new West End location in the Junction in mid May, Laura Cleland and Sean Kinghan have just opened their own Hooked on the Danforth, just East of Greenwood, this weekend!!
Laura, Sean, Dan and Kristin have all worked together over the last 15 years in the restaurant industry and are pretty much family. When Kristin and Dan opened Hooked, Laura was one of the first to join the team. Laura remained with Hooked over the next 3 years, often part time while maintaining a challenging sales manager position within a large specialty food company. Sean has worked with us at Hooked over the last two years, learning the trade while being an integral part of the front of house at Edulis Restaurant.
Laura and Sean approached Kristin and Dan to open their ‘own’ Hooked in 2016, an idea that immediately made sense to all involved. Kristin and Dan have always maintained that they would support independently owned shops under the Hooked name, opened and operated by like minded Hooked alumni interested in bettering the retail fish industry in Toronto.
Why the Danforth Mosaic (The Danny) neighbourhood for Hooked? Laura and Sean love this vibrant community. The Danny is quickly becoming a destination shopping and eating area, with new independently owned shops, bars and restaurants opening annually. These new businesses are proudly supported by the neighbourhood. Folks from all over the GTA are now hearing about, and heading to, the Danny.
Hooked Danforth will stock all of the same fish and shellfish as other Hooked shops, will make all of the same Hooked Brand products, and carry a similar retail product selection. The staff at Hooked Danforth will be trained chefs and cooks, knowledgeable about all Hooked product, and be well able to help customers with cooking advice and preparation tips. The only differentiating factor: Hooked Danforth is proudly owned by Laura Cleland and Sean Kinghan.
