Hacienda Solano Selección 2019 is the result of a project by Toni Sarrión, head winemaker at Bodega Mustiguillo, in Valencia. Toni grew up in the area and worked in various sectors before realizing that winemaking was his calling. He is a firm believer in letting the grapes speak for themselves, and has contributed to elevating the modest Bobal grape to new heights – it took him 4 years to produce a Bobal wine he was happy with and which ultimately put Bobal on the respectable grape list. Many wineries have hopped on the bandwagon and wines made from Bobal are now hugely popular among connoisseurs, thanks to Toni’s perseverance and faith in Bobal.
Hacienda Solano in Ribera del Duero invited Toni to make his own wine there and Toni, always looking for new challenges, lent his magic touch to the local grape: Tempranillo. Situated in the village of La Aguilera, near Burgos, 2 types of wines are produced: Vinos de Parcela and Vinos de Pueblo.
The Selección 2019 is a Vino de Pueblo, also known as bush vineyards, with soils of marl, clay and limestone. Sustainable viticulture, no herbicides or pesticides are used to ensure the purest expression of the Tempranillo grape. Minimal intervention during winemaking. Partial aging in old French oak barrels of different sizes, blended with the rest of the wine aged in concrete, resulting in a very elegant, full-bodied, rich wine. 98% Tempranillo and 2% Albillo, a native, local white grape.
Tasting note: Intense violet colour, clean and bright.On the nose it shows hints of red fruit and spicy notes with high intensity. On the palate it is persistent, with enveloping tannins and volume. 14% alc/vol. and less than 1.5 grams residual sugar per litre.
