The Story of Forgotten Row…
It all started with our winemaker, Shiraz Mottiar, helping a fellow farmer. When the vineyard owner explained that a row of Chardonnay had been ‘forgotten’ during the harvest on his farm, Shiraz went out of his way to purchase this fully mature fruit. Ultra-ripe, round, tropical and full flavoured, he aimed to craft a wine in stark contrast to our established range of Chardonnays.
What began as an ‘outlier’ in our Malivoire family, has quickly become a favourite. Since the first vintage, we have chosen to carefully select a block in our Estate vineyards each year to hang extra long on the vine as if it were forgotten. The result is beautifully opulent fruit that craves extended barrel aging and ultimately produces a Chardonnay of keen balance – consistently a showstopper.
Harvested by hand from the Malivoire Estate vineyard on October 28th, the fruit was fermented in American oak barrels followed by 8 months of lees contact and integration. Forgotten Row Chardonnay will excite your senses with a combination of tropical fruit and complex aromatics. This wine is both sumptuous and captivating.
In the Glass…
An array of apple pie, cantaloupe, honeycomb and coconut, followed by a fresh, smooth texture with flavours of green apple, baked bread, candied fruit, cashew and caramel.
On the Table…
When you find a wine that has this much flavour and character, you may just want to enjoy it with friends or loved ones and great conversation!
