Joe Siegal is at The Food Terminal at the crack of dawn six days a week.
Often referred to as the Canadian Stock Exchange for fruits and vegetables, the Ontario Food Terminal, or OFT, has been Canada’s largest wholesale fruit and produce distribution centre since it was established back in 1954.
Having wished to visit for so many years, when I was offered the opportunity to shoot some footage there it would be fair to say that I rather enthusiastically jumped at the chance as it’s rarely a camera is allowed within its borders.
Getting out of bed at around 3am is not something that comes naturally to me, and so it was with somewhat bleary eyes I travelled to the Etobicoke depot of Hilite Fine Foods from where I was to witness firsthand the process of just how food makes it from both local and far-off fields to our tables via the Ontario Food Terminal.
