Donald Ziraldo has put his name on the labels of the new 2008 vintage icewine product line from Equifera Estate. The man who popularized icewine in Canada poured a Riesling and Vidal version of the wines to journalists and guests at a launch party on January 30 at Toronto’s Rosewater Supper Club – attendees who stayed for a sold-out dinner heard him read from his 2007 book ICEWINE: Extreme Winemaking, which he co-wrote with Karl Kaiser, with whom he founded Inniskillin. Ziraldo told GFR that he will continue to make small quantities of icewine under his own label, but looked forward to working as a consultant with the Niagara-based Equifera into the future.
