Galileo’s maxim about wine being sunshine in a glass always makes me think of red wine, but the 2008 Angimbé (LCBO# 606350 – $14.95) white wine from renown Sicilian producer Cusumano may be just the golden drink to bring us through the showers into a dazzling spring. Using 70% indigenous Insolia grapes, this a big white wine with lots of stone fruit (peaches, apricots) and a pineapple note that cuts through a refreshing lemony acidity. The Amgimbé can stand up to big salty flavours like olives, or prosciutto – the perfect match for antipasto, or whatever begins an evening.
