Malcolm Jolley talks to a Calvados master…
Christian Drouin heads his family’s distillery, named after his father, Calvados Christian Drouin. Located in the prestigious Pays d’Auge in Normandy, Christian Drouin makes all manner of drinks made with apples and pears, including cider, pommeau and, of course, Calvados. Critically acclaimed, they export throughout the world, including Canada. I had tasted Drouin’s products some time ago with their Ontario agent, Joel Thompson of Chalk, Slate and Gravel, and wanted to know more about them. I met with Christian Drouin, the man, recently at Toronto’s cider bar, Her Father’s Cider Bar on Harbord Street, where we shot the video below on the great drinks of Normandy.
