Nicholas Pearce presents the classic and supertuscan wines of Villa Calcinaia…
The winery of Villa Calcinaia is located in the heart of Chianti Classico, near the village of Greve-in-Chianti. This Tuscan estate has been home to the Capponi family since 1524, and continues to be owned by them to this day. In 1992, Count Sebastiano Capponi became the first in the history of the family to manage the winery personally, giving a new life to the vineyards and the cellar.
The family owns 200 hectares of land planted with olive trees, vines and pine trees. Since Sebastiano took over, he started the process of organic conversion for all the crops, obtaining the certification for the vines in 2014.
Villa Calcinaia’s wines express the family’s love for their land. For many years, the Capponis have dedicated all their efforts to recuperating the rich heritage of the old Sangiovese clones and other native grape varieties such as Mammono and San Forte that could be found in the abandoned plots neighbouring the estate.
We are excited to offer you a special selection of their wines, including some special back vintages, for arrival in Winter 2020.
