Cru Wine Merchants presents Boulevard Napoleon vigneron Trevor Gulliver (St. John, London).

This man and his wines would like to see you for brunch at Backhouse, Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Longtime GFR readers know that Trevor Gulliver is half of the dynamic duo that founded London’s St. John group of restaurants. The ones that truly pay attention will also know that Trevor is also the driving force behind the St. John line of wines, including their premium label Boulevard Napoleon grown and made in the Minervois. It turns out Boulevard Napoleon’s importing agent in this fine province is none other than Cru Wine Merchants, a Good Food Fighter and managed by none other than local Riesling hero Charles Baker, who called me this morning to apprise us of Trevor’s imminent arrival to our Dominion and his itinerary in these parts.

The bad news, Charles told me, is that the Saturday night Boulevard Napoleon Dinner at Brothers Food & Wine on September 23rd, cooked by St. John alumnus chef Jonathan Nicolau, is firmly sold out. (No surprise there as Brothers is about as hot as any restaurant in Toronto presently, not least from this recent profile in the New York Times.) The good news is that there is still room for Trevor and Boulevard’s ‘Skin Contact Sunday Brunch‘ cooked by chef Ryan Crawford at Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Backhouse.
