Those who visit this site on a regular basis will no doubt be aware of my love for the wines of the Jura. When visiting the Jura recently I had the pleasure of being introduced to Caroline Hughes-Beguet, a young lady from England who was acting in the role of translater throughout our time there as my French is still somewhat lacking.
I came to understand that Caroline’s French husband Patrice made wine himself and eventually badgered her enough that she found a little for me to taste. At the time I was seriously impressed with these bottlings, and brought a couple back to Canada to taste with my peers.
Sometime later GFR hosted a Jura tasting in the three storey penthouse of the Soho Metropolitan Hotel, where I got to meet Patrice for the very first time (see picture above). We got along famously, as I found his personality as ebullient as his wonderful wines.
And so, last week, it was with quite some surprise that I bumped into Patrice in Avignon where I was attending a Rhône wines conference. Patrice had assembled a satellite tasting room at the conference presenting a collection of young winemakers from all over France and further afar (Switzerland anyone?).
Destiny had brought us together once again and so I felt it was time to get Patrice on camera…
