Algil is the culmination of a dream. Made from 100% Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo), from 25 to 40 years old vines planted at 700m above sea level. Early harvest in the first quarter of September, a warm and very dry year with very low yields but a very healthy grape. Manual harvest in 15kg boxes with selection in the vineyard. The vineyards are located in Morales de Toro and San Román de Hornija, within the D.O, Toro.

Aging: 6 months in 225 l French oak barrels, malolactic in barrel
Alcoholic degree: 15º

Tasting notes:
Intense cherry colour with violet edges, medium / high layer. On the nose, very expressive, with aromas of ripe fruit and floral… memories of berries. On the palate, fine and subtle entry, powerful and persistent flavour of ripe fruit with light nuances of toasted barrel from aging in barrels, with along and pleasant finish. Pairs well with semi-mature cheeses, roast beef, or game meats.

Bodegas y Viñedos Algil arises from the deep knowledge of this land and its raw materials; from the effort to make tradition and innovation come together, giving rise to the constant search for perfection. My mission, to enjoy in a glass all the flavor of an honest landscape in which the grape is the protagonist of each bottled story.

I am Iván Alonso Gil, viticulturist and wine specialist. I am also the manager and creator of Algil Bodegas y Viñedos: a one-man winemaking project within the DO Toro where we make unique wines, giving the greatest importance to the raw material, to the land without renouncing the most rigorous control and care to seek excellence. In the small municipality of San Román de Hornija, just ten kilometers from Toro, the center of the region, this personal project starts and seeks not only to make quality wines but to revitalize the name of these small towns that live by and for wine. I grew up surrounded by vineyards. In essence, I am part of this world and I do not conceive of another life but it is surrounded by the vines that point to the sky, between the stony soils and the clays of Toro.
