I have to be quite honest here… my inherently inquisitive mind has always wondered just what goes on at one of these Penfolds “Recorking Clinics” I almost imagined it to be akin to some kind of secret Grange-loving cabal’s ritualistic get-together… which in a way it was I suppose, but oh so much more.
The esteemed Australian house of Penfolds has been holding these clinics worldwide for over 19 years. At these sessions Penfolds offer a unique service to owners of their wines… and it is all free of charge.
When Penfolds rolled into town just the other week I took along an older bottle of Penfolds Kalimna Bin 28 for appraisal by Penfolds Chief Winemaker (and friend of Good Food Revolution) Peter Gago, and filmed what I found to be a fascinating process…
Edinburgh-born/Toronto-based Sommelier, consultant, writer, judge and educator Jamie Drummond is the Director of Programs/Editor of Good Food Revolution… and he would like to thank his kind Aunt Angela for the bottle of 1995 Penfolds Kalimna Bin 28.

Jamie,
Great job! I had a terrific time at this clinic and was as impressed with the process as you seemed to be. Imagine this level of customer service….you’re only allowed to attend AFTER you’ve bought their product, and ONLY if that buy was 15 years ago. Really quite something. Great people and a consistently quality product.
Very informative video. I don’t have a single bottle of Penfolds in my cellar, so I would never know first the details of what goes on at these clinics. Thanks Jamie.
