Château Maris Winemaker Robert Eden holds court in the snug at The Oxley.

Château Maris Winemaker Robert Eden holds court in the snug at The Oxley. And yes, that is Archive Wine Bar’s Joshua Corea skulking about in the background.

Minervois Winemaker Robert Eden is one of those rare birds, a biodynamic acolyte with a personality just as affable, rich, vibrant, complex, and engaging as his Château Maris wines.

From his first biodynamic experiments concerning, as he so concisely puts it, “two piles of shit”, to the fully biodynamic operation he runs down in the Languedoc today, Robert Eden’s wines are a living testament to what is possible when one couples Rudolph Steiner’s philosophies (e.g. understanding that the vine has a soul equal to your own) and less-than-conventional practices (e.g. let’s bury this cow horn full of cow dung just over here) with a healthy dose of good old-fashioned pragmatism.
