The Dog Days of Summer are here.  Though our first rule of wine is to drink what you like, we are also firm believers in ‘seasonal wine enjoyment’.  Just like food, certain wines are just better at different times throughout the year.  Here are a few tips and tricks to make sure the remainder of your summer is spent pouring the right wines for friends and family.

•   Leave the precious wines at home when heading to the cottage.  Instead, bring forward, fruity, drinkable wines that show well with or without food.

•   Look for fresh, bright, cool climate white wines that pair well with summer’s lighter fare.

•  Chill your red wines in the fridge for a minimum 30-45 minutes minutes prior to enjoying, especially on really warm days and nights

•   Avoid tannic, heavily oaked red wines, especially when pairing with classic, grilled fare (saucy chops, ribs, burgers, chicken).

•   Don’t forget the bubbles!  Sparkling wine is versatile, delicious and perfect for outdoor enjoyment.  Just remember to keep it well chilled and on ice.

For a limited time, we are offering a 6-bottle summer mixed case, delivered to your door anywhere in Ontario.  These wines have been selected for their summer appeal and reasonable price.  Each is perfectly suited for the pool, dock, backyard or terrace.

Weingut Manz Silvaner 2023 – Rheinhessen, Germany – Silvaner is known for producing lithe, fruity, highly drinkable wines that drink well on their own or with lighter fare.  This is a textbook example with plenty of rich orchard and stone fruits.

Quinta de Sanjoanne Terroir Mineral 2021 – Vinho Verde, Portugal – Vinho Verde has become increasingly fashionable of late.  Its vibrant aromas and flavours framed by zippy acids make it the perfect foil for summer’s heat and simply prepared seafood.

Perrier et Fils Apremont 2023 – Savoie, France – 100% Jacquére, a local grape from the Alpine French region of Savoie.  This light, stylish, floral and mineral-driven wine is ideal for summer sipping alongside soft cheeses and charcuterie.

Ponte da Boga Mencia 2021 – Ribeiro Sacra, Spain – Mencia has been called Spain’s answer to Pinot Noir, with its silky, plush texture, rich berry fruit and underlying savoury complexity.  Like Pinot, it’s a highly underrated BBQ wine.

Salcheto Rosso 2022 – Tuscany, Italy – This is a classic, youthful Tuscan red with tons of freshness and energy and the archetype Summer House Red for all occasions.  Crushable on its own or alongside charcuterie, summer pastas and grilled burgers.

Domaine des Schistes Illico Rouge 2022 – Roussillon, France – A unique blend of Carignan, Cinsault and Marselan (crossing of Cabernet and Grenache) that combine to make a charming and flavourful southern French red.  A perfect accompaniment to classic grilled fare.
