As the season shifts into Fall, and we start to appreciate all the spectacular colours that are on display this time of year, we’ve noticed we have a few wines that will soon be gone (just like Summer – Quelle horreur!). 2020 Château de Rouanne Brut Nature Rosé
The vineyard of Château de Rouanne is a unique one-block monopole, planted entirely with 50+ year old vines, which are a selection massale of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. The wine displays bright, invigorating notes of wild strawberry, pear, thyme, white flowers and flinty minerality.

2020 Château de Rouanne Vinsobres
An intriguing mix of herbaceous, floral and fruity notes on the nose, with scents ranging from bay leaf and lavender to violet and purple raspberry. It is silky and fine on the palate with Château de Rouanne’s trademark salinity. Notes of ripe red berries, cherry preserve, black pepper and incense, with a final touch of licorice.

2020 Domaine de la Noblaie ‘Chante le Vent’ Chinon Blanc
This exceptional white displays aromas and flavours of citrus fruit, flowers and white peach. The beautiful minerality on the finish comes from the tuffeau limestone on which the grapes are grown. Great as an aperitif or paired with shellfish or goat cheese. Will cellar nicely for 8-10 years.

2019 Domaine de Verquière Rasteau
On the nose there are aromas of blackcurrant, black cherry, truffle and subtle spice. The taste is fresh and expressive with notes of ripe red berries, liquorice and pepper. The palate is generous, full-bodied, with smooth tannins supported by a slightly mineral structure, and great intensity.

2020 Domaine de Verquière Plan de Dieu, Côtes du Rhône Villages
The nose offers aromas of red fruits – red currants, strawberries and raspberries – with a warming spice undertone. On the palate this wine is very well balanced with red berry fruits alongside an herbal component of thyme and rosemary. Full and luxurious velvety tannins lead to a long finish.

2020 Château Pesquié ‘Quintessence’ Blanc
A deep, rich wine, with beautiful notes of ripe stone fruits, white flowers, toasted spice, and a touch of earthy garrigue. Beautiful on the palate as well, it’s medium to full-bodied and has plenty of mid-palate depth followed by a great finish.

About the Wineries
Château de Rouanne
Located in the relatively ‘unknown’ appellation of Vinsobres, which was elevated to its own AOC in 2006, this is an historic estate. A medieval castle, originally from the 12th century, was established on a 2000-year old Gallo-Roman villa on this site. Destroyed during the French Revolution, the castle was rebuilt in 1820.

Domaine de la Noblaie
One of the oldest family estates in the Chinon appellation and a historic site; the house was founded sometime in either the 15th or 16th century. Under the capable stewardship of Jérôme Billard, Domaine de la Noblaie now has 28ha of vineyards which sit at one of the highest points in Chinon with essentially 2 sloping hillsides. The soil is mostly limestone (some of it really quite deep) which is covered with clay and limestone shards. The estate, which includes bush and wood surrounding the winery, is certified organic by Ecocert and they have been working this way since Jérôme took things over from his father.

Domaine de Verquière
The winery is located on a 45-ha estate with vineyards in the appellations of Sablet, Plan de Dieu, Rasteau and Vacqueyras. Each terroir is quite different. Sablet is built on a sandy mound from which it takes its name. Plan de Dieu is a bed of red clay packed to a depth of 10m. Rasteau, located a little further north-east and at an altitude of 200m, has a landscape of undulating hills and varied stony and clay-chalk soils. And Vacqueyras, located just south of Gigondas, has steep terraced vineyards with distinct soils producing red, rosé, and white wines.

Château Pesquié
Chateau Pesquié is a pioneering estate of the Côtes de Ventoux AOC. The terroir has a great mineral diversity, predominantly consisting of limestone, and the Mistral provides exceptional ventilation, ensuring the cultivation of healthy vines. This remarkable place results in a range of impressive white, rosé & red wines, from traditional Rhône varietals. Sustainably farmed since the 1980s, the estate moved to fully organic methods in the early 2000s, and now largely biodynamic. Solar panels on the property produce more electricity than the estate uses.
