From Bourgogne, white wine wizard Pascal Clément’s memorable Savigny-lès-Beaune 2017 will be available, as will the striking Free Form Vin Gris 2019, the new vintage of this popular wine from Okanagan Valley’s pioneering Okanagan Crush Pad, and their organic Garnet Valley Ranch, pictured above (credit Jamie Goode).
These wines are in limited supply, so don’t delay in grabbing them. You can find them in select stores, or order them easily online by clicking on the LCBO product numbers or bottle shots below.
Pascal Clément Dessus Les Vermots Savigny-lès-Beaune 2017
Born into a family of growers and winemakers, Pascal had more than 20 vintages working experience in Bourgogne before he started his own project in 2012. Based in Savigny-lès-Beaune, where he owns a half hectare organic vineyard, he farms 10 ha across 29 appellations in Bourgogne for his wines. 80% of his production is white wine, a passion honed by his years of winemaking at Coche Dury, amongst others. He farms with no chemicals, does native ferment in barrel, employs MLF, and never uses battonage in his wines.
“From Savigny-lès-Beaune, this was native fermented in foudres, where it was held for a year. Pascal, well known for his exceptional white wines, loves using older foudre for his whites, as he feels it brings out the saltiness in the wine. Pascal also never uses batonnage on his wines, leaving them on full lees in barrels after pressing. From the top of Savigny’s hills, and a cooler, wind-swept site, this is pointed and tight, with a welcome lick of reduction up front. Nimble and taut, with flecks of pencil lead. Very juicy, saline, and mouthwatering, this is very long in the mouth with lingering mineral salts. Powerful, yet fresh, this is drinking stunning now, but will age beautifully.” [Drink through 2027.] 93 points, gismondionwine.com

Free Form Vin Gris 2019
Okanagan Crush Pad opened in 2011 to provide a home-base for Christine Coletta and Steve Lornie’s original wine label Haywire and to serve as a custom crush facility. Today the winery makes its own wines exclusively under the labels Haywire, Narrative, Free Form, and Bizou + Yukon, in addition to creating custom label projects for private retail accounts.
With home vineyard Switchback and sister property Garnet Valley Ranch now organic certified, Haywire is internationally recognized as making some of the most game-changing wines from the region.
“For the first time in 2019, Free Form Vin Gris comes from Garnet Valley Ranch. It is made the same as the previous two vintages: whole bunch pressed and native fermented in concrete, where it underwent full MLF and rested for six months on lees prior to bottling unfiltered, with a wee amount of SO2. Tight and focused, with gooseberry, quince on a slick, sleek palate, with ample energy and verve. The finish lingers with a bergamot note, and ample mineral salts. Well done, yet again; this wine will only improve with time in bottle.” 90 points, gismondionwine.com
