Nikka Coffey Vodka is an ultra-premium spirit that combines the unique talents of Nikka’s Chief Blender, Tadashi Sakuma, and the extremely pure and refined distillate produced via the legendary Coffey Still (named for Irishman Aeneas Coffey, who first patented the still in 1830).

Though it takes some skill to operate effectively, the Coffey still yields spirits of unmatched smoothness and definition, making it ideal for the creation of incredibly clean and intense white spirits.

By definition vodka is supposed to be “neutral,” but what we love about Nikka’s is that it sports a subtle yet engaging aroma of cherry blossom and citrus peel. In the mouth it has a creamy, viscous texture, with no rough edges, crystal clean flavour, and an exceptionally long, mildly peppery finish.

While it may be best neat and chilled, it also makes an excellent cocktail, just don’t overwhelm its character with intense mixes. Try it in a simple yet elegant Nikka Coffey Vodka Martini:
Combine 75ml (2.5 ounces) of Nikka Coffey Vodka with 15ml (0.5 ounces) of dry vermouth. Stir in a mixing glass until well chilled, strain into a martini glass and garnish with green olives.

Just outside of Sendai is Nikka’s Miyagikyo Distillery, home of their Coffey stills. The distillery sits in a beautiful foggy glen surrounded by mountains and at a junction of two clean rivers. Once Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka, tried the water from one of the rivers, which is now the water source, he was so impressed he immediately decided to build a distillery there.
