Punchy, lively and fabulously expressed, the wine shows passionfruit, green rockmelon, kaffir lime and jasmine characters on the nose, leading to an intensely flavoured palate that is vibrant and juicy. It is instantly appealing with classic varietal notes, backed by refreshing acidity, finishing long and delicious. At its best: now to 2021.

2016 MAISON ROCHE DE BELLENE VIEILLES VIGNES SAINT-VÉRAN
$27.95 | VINTAGES#: 11906 | 750 mL bottle
Headed by Nicolas Potel, this dynamic négoce activity proposes a Saint-Véran displaying a caressing texture and deprived of pronounced woody notes. Marzipan, peach, apple and lacteous notes are liberated from this Mâconnais white. Take it out of the fridge 15 minutes before serving with salmon or a warm goat-cheese salad.

2016 CHÂTEAU DE MONTFAUCON CÔTES DU RHÔNE
$18.95 | VINTAGES#: 13439 | 750 mL bottle |
90pts Robert Parker
The silky 2016 Cotes du Rhone is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Cinsault and Counoise. Cherries, garrigue and leather notes all come together in this medium to full-bodied but gentle, elegant wine. It’s smooth from start to finish, with fine-grained tannins and hints of thyme that emerge on the finish. This historic property sits next to the Rhône on its western bank, looking across the valley to the Dentelles de Montmirail and Mont Ventoux in the distance. The current owner, Rodolphe du Pins, has been making wine at the property since 1995. “Sixteen was just an amazing year,” he said. “For whites as well as reds.”

CLASSICS
2014 CORTONESI LA MANNELLA BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO DOCG
$63.00
| VINTAGES#: 12405 | 750 mL bottle |
93pts Wine Align – Michael Godel
Cortonesi works through the challenge with a sangiovese in 2014 that finds critical mass and therefore celebrates la vita bella in Brunello. With no reason to choose a Vigna-designate nor a Riserva to produce, the best of the best therefore finds its way into this eponymous family Brunello. It’s equipped with notable vintage fruit, finer acids than many and a tannic structure that is not only correct but highly promising. Lengthiness is one of the best in the vintage. Drink date: 2023-2031. Score – 93. (Michael Godel, winealign.com, March 10, 2019)
