Nicholas Pearce Wines wins an Elsie and brings in new wines for the LCBO’s Vintages shelves.
Last week, the LCBO honoured its top suppliers and agents for innovation, creativity and commitment to customer service and social responsibility at the 2018 Elsie Awards.
Nicholas Pearce Wines was honoured to accept an LCBO Elsie Award on behalf of our amazing team and suppliers for BEST “FOOD & DRINK” WINE OF THE YEAR.
This recognition is inspiring to all of us. We would like to thank the LCBO and all of the great consumers in Ontario that support our cutting edge and traditional wines.
We love what we do!
Please find a selection of new wines below that have just been released in LCBO Vintages locations around Ontario over the last two weeks.
Ramsay Petite Sirah 2015 $29.95 “Read the back label for an excellent comment on what wine is really all about, in the larger social context. This deep, dark petit sirah expresses classic, complex dark blackberry/blueberry fruit with black pepper, meaty notes and thyme. It is full bodied, dense, firmly acidic, tannic and warm, yet still contained and well proportioned. The length is excellent. This wine has gumption and depth. Tasted June 2018” (David Lawrason) |

Muré Signature Riesling 2014 $22.95 “Muré’s is perfectly housed riesling for Alsace from the Côtes De Rouffach and it may be used to begin the climb up to and through the gates into the estate’s devout and divine Clos Saint Landelin. Pure, clear and clean mineral thoughts are supplicated with some surprisingly fleshy fruit, indicative of lemon, lime and even a bite into tart peach. If what you want is dry as the desert Alsace that teases Grand Cru exceptionality than Muré is what you need. This signature-themed riesling abides without you needing to exercize years of patience in wait for the secondary to walk its talk. Drink 2017-2023. Tasted January 2017”. (Micheal Godel) |

Rex Hill Jacob-Hart Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015 $89.95 “A warm year in the Willamette Valley, though this wine retains a sense of herbal freshness, stewed rhubarb and raspberry jam flavours. Tannins are supple and well-managed, while oak is a factor though not a major flavour contributor. Excellent length and depth overall. Accomplished wine, best after 2020”. (John Szabo) |

A To Z Wineworks The Essence of Oregon Pinot Noir 2015 $44.95 —VINTAGES#: 562884 | 750 mL bottle 90 Pts Winealign.com Lightly prickly tannins surround a sleek, supple core of raspberry, cherry and floral flavors. A hint of savory spice adds to the gentle finish. Best from 2018 through 2022. Smart Buys. Score – 91. (Harvey Steiman, winespectator.com, Feb. 28, 2017) “The flagship pinot noir from A to Z delivers the broad yet specific message to say that this right here is the essence of Oregon pinot noir. A great vintage shines on this 35 vineyard block cuvée bottled to celebrate 15 years in business. Ripeness and collective soul never had it so good, grateful, playful and blessed to live on in infamy. This is bloody delicious, musical pinot noir, like a 25 minute jam, of berry fruit, note for note, one player taking the spotlight at a time. Drink 2018-2021”. (Micheal Godel) |

Mimi en Provence Grande Réserve Rosé 2017 $20.95 —VINTAGES#: 452573 | 750 mL bottle The “MIMI en Provence” brand was created by Vins Bréban company in December 2014. MIMI is an affectionate Provençal nickname and a common term of endearment. It is also the diminutive of the female name Mireille, much used in Provence. Highlighting the winemaking expertise of Vins Bréban company, MIMI en Provence is the product of only the best rosé wines produced in partnership with different provençal wineries. The presentation of the wine is marked by elegance, its distinctive glass stopper, and stylish black box. Packed with fruit and spice, this is a great food wine. It is full bodied, rich with raspberry flavors gathered into a structure of light tannins and edgy minerality. The aftertaste brings out a crisper character. Editors’ Choice. Score – 90. Tornatore Etna Rosso DOC 2015 $22.95 “The large land holdings of Tornatore mean great value in Ontario for Etna Rosso, a nerello mascalese beauty with just a small portion of nerello cappuccio. This 2015 is a bit hotter than the previous vintage and spent one year in 3000 and 5000L bottles plus cement for 10 days. It’s a perfect example of the subtleties and lithe character exposed through these grapes, from this volcanic place. I love the spicy lift and charming grace of this wine. You really have to try it. Drink 2018-2022. Tasted May 2018.” (Michael Godel) |

Clos Marsalette Blanc 2015 Pessac Leognan, Bordeaux $47.00 VINTAGES#: 545384 | 750 mL bottle Very fresh, with just-cut peach, yellow apple and green plum fruit that is expressive, picking up a strong verbena note along the way. Shows energetic honeysuckle and heather accents through the finish, marrying richness and zip. Distinct from most Pessac whites. Drink now through 2020. Score – 91. Domaine de Mauperthuis Chablis 2015 $27.95 —VINTAGES#: 524298 | 750 mL bottle Domaine de Mauperthuis is a boutique producer with one of the coolest vineyards in Chablis (temperature-wise, at any rate). This cool customer comes from 50-year-old vines and is fermented with native yeasts and aged in foudre. It has good weight and presence, with notes of citrus, peach and mineral and a driving acidity. A deft herbaceous note and a dash of tropical fruit add complexity and intrigue. This would be a pretty cool match for a seafood stew featuring mussels, scallops, halibut, fennel and thyme.
