At Nicholas Pearce Wines Inc. (NPW) we’re proud of our line up of stunning LCBO Vintages Retail Releases this month.

Here we find Classsic French bottlings of Cahors Malbec and Crus Cotes de Rhone Villages released along side New World gems from Oregon, USA & Adelaide Hills Australia.

All wines released show great value for under $25. The 2014 A to Z Wineworks Pinot Noir earned its place on the Front Cover of the Vintages Magazine with 90 points from Sara D’Amato (Winealign), while the 2013 Chateau Larmatine Malbec earned its 91 points from Wine Enthusiast Magazine and an Editor’s Choice Selection.

Woodside Park Pinot Noir, Adelaide Hills 2014 – $19.95

Handpicked and wild fermented in French oak, the aromatic red berries give subtle hints of cinnamon and spice. The palate is vibrant with dark berries and cherries, with hints of dried herbs and silky graceful tannins.

The Adelaide Hills region is a famously cool growing area in the Mount Lofty Ranges zone of South Australia. The vines here are all planted above 400 m, with the highest vineyards reaching 650 metres. The area possesses some of the most diverse soils, topography and climatic conditions in Australia, with many sites ideally suited for Pinot Noir. The cool growing conditions and plentiful sunshine produce Pinots of striking elegance and balance with impressive fruit, depth and complexity.
 

Domaine Le Grand Retour Plan de Dieu Côtes du Rhône-Villages 2014 – $14.95

There are historical documents that describe viticulture in the Plan de Dieu area as far back as the Middle Ages. The wines were elevated to Côtes du Rhône-Villages status in 2005. Made from 70% Grenache with 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre, this wine delivers big red berry fruit and savoury herbs. Pair with garlicky beef or mutton burgers.

“Quite traditional to be sure, the spice of rustic life runs deep into the veins of this Côtes du Rhône Villages. Dark cherry and cedar show up on the nose and travel along analgesic lines into a bite of cinnamon and clove on the palate. For fans of old barrel, savoury Rhône blends with a bubbling pot-au-feu. A To Z Wineworks Oregon Pinot Noir 2014 $24.95

An impressive vintage for A to Z offering a great deal of character and typicity without weight or notable wine making influence. The earthy, mushroom character trumps the oak on the palate resulting in hints of delicate, exotic spice. A smoky character enhances the fruit and adds dimension to the wine. Grounded but compelling. A touch of VA on the finish adds intrigue. Tasted February 2017.

 Château Lamartine Prestige du Malbec 2013 $19.95

 Wine Enthusiast – Editor’s Choice. Score – 91  Still firm and structured, this pure Malbec wine is rich and tannic. At the same time, it has layers of ripe black fruits that are coming through strongly. The smoky, textured character of this wine comes from the wood aging that has added an extra layer. Drink from 2018. Editor’s Choice.

“Cahors an interesting fringe area for the ripening of its signature grape, malbec. This is example is just on the cusp of perfect ripeness, offering a wealth of aromas from dried herb to red flower along tomato leaf and prune. Quite dry and savory but still with some juicy cherry featured on the palate. Tannins are firm but do not overwhelm. Overall, a very food friendly wine particularly suited to meat stews.
