Having always been fascinated by the wines of Italy’s Tenuta Cocci Grifoni from the Marche region, it was with great pleasure I sat down for a conversation with Marilena Cocci Grifoni in Toronto.
Marilena was in town for The Vine Agency‘s impressive portfolio tasting at the Four Seasons Centre For The Performing Arts, and was kind enough to take some time out of her busy day to speak with Good Food Revolution about her family’s superb winery.
Integral to the establishment of the Rosso Piceno Superiore DOC (almost always a great value in my mind), Tenuta Cocci Grifoni have been making some of the region’s most interesting wines since the start of the 1970s. Since the 1980s the house has steadfastly adhered to the philosophy of utilising only the Marche’s indigenous varietals (Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Pecorino, Passerina) instead of the international interlopers that became so popular over the intervening decades.
