Joel Peterson, the founder of Ravenswood winery way back in 1976 and the acknowledged “Godfather of Zin,” makes a very special appearance next week for two structured tasting and dinner events in our own backyard. Though the Toronto event is SOLD OUT on Monday night, tickets are still available for Wednesday, November 18th in Ottawa. The venue is the newly reopened Steak & Sushi in the Byward Market. A unique menu has been created specifically by chef John Leung for this once in a lifetime tasting and dinner, matching a carefully curated range of Joel’s top Single Vineyard Zinfandels.
The evening will begin with a detailed, structured tasting comparing and contrasting three vintages across three decades of Dickerson Zinfandel, a Napa Valley rarity, and Old Hill Zinfandel, produced from some of Sonoma’s oldest, most concentrated vines. Dinner will follow after a sparkling reception, and glide through a hit list of more of Joel’s top Zins and reds, including Barricia, Belloni, Big River, Teldeschi, Pickberry and Icon. Simply stunning, and aptly titled, “An Evening with the Godfather of Zin.”
