This is a VintagesShopOnline.com Release:
A standout amongst a string of great vintages… 2007 was one of those vintages in Tuscany that got a lot of people excited. I remember the enthusiasm in her voice when Donatella Cinelli Colombini, AKA the “Lady of Brunello” first talked to me about her 2007s. They were muscular, yet with great freshness; wines that will have the stuff to age, but will satisfy those in the short term, for those who just can’t wait or don’t have a cellar. As a Riserva, the wine must be held back one additional year over the regular Brunellos, which are already released five years after the vintage.
Since the 2004 vintage, the winery changed their philosophy for their Riserva wines, ensuring that they were, in fact, the best wine produced by the estate. Yields were reduced, as was production, in hopes to ensure quality. The 2007 Riserva is proof that the winery continues to improve their wines, in the eyes of Donatella, the consultant winemaker Valérie Lavigne(Château d’Yquem, Margaux, Coeval Blanc), and wine critics throughout the world.
Only 15 cases of the 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Riservawere purchased by LCBO and it’s only available on the LCBO’s online store, VintagesShopOnline.com. The wine can be purchased by the bottle and shipped to the LCBO nearest you, free of charge, ready for you to pick up at your convenience.
Sincerely,
TASTING NOTES
Donatella Cinelli Colombini Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2007
Review: “A deft use of oak adds spice and roundness to this bright, cherry- and plum-laced Brunello. There’s a beam of acidity maintaining focus as the fruit melds into dense, burly tannins. Needs time to integrate, but this remains enticing. Best from 2015 through 2030.” Score: 94 – Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, May 31, 2013
Varietal: Sangiovese Grosso
Region: Tuscany, Italy
