MALIVOIRE CELEBRATES OCTOBER WITH THE PINOT AFFAIR AND SPECIAL RELEASES:
Some spaces are still available for Malivoire’s contribution to The Pinot Affair. Over the weekend of October 15 and 16, pass holders will be treated to a lesson from our Winemaker on the merits of steel fermentation and oak fermentation as they apply to Pinot Noir. Before the session is out, participants will assist in the blending of a future wine. Naturally, the lesson will be accompanied by tastings that are guaranteed to inform and delight. Similarly intriguing themes will be offered by the seven other participating wineries. If you do not yet have your pass, you can order one online through www.thepinotaffair.com.
To mark the weekend, we also plan to pre-release and specially price three wines from an outstanding vintage for Niagara Pinot Noir:
- 2009 “Alive Pinot Noir” – $24.95 ($29.95 upon release)
- 2009 M2 Small Lot Pinot Noir – $29.95 ($34.95 upon release)
- 2009 Mottiar Pinot Noir – $34.95 ($39.95 upon release)
After the weekend of October 15-16, these three wines will be returned to our cellar until their official releases in 2012. Click here to order.
RUNNING LOW
At the winery, our Guilty Men offerings are getting low. Within the next few weeks our supplies of 2010 Guilty Men Sauvignon Blanc and 2009 Guilty Men Meritage will run out. Priced each at only $19.95, and with Thanksgiving, Christmas, and a long winter on the horizon, need we say more? Click here to order.
NEW FROM OUR WINE LIBRARY
Our initial library release drew a big response. Our 2004 and 2005 Gamays, Pinot Noirs and Cabernet Merlot have already sold out. Looking for a change of pace last weekend, we poured some 2005 Moira Chardonnay. How good was it? Good enough that one customer returned the next day to clear out the shelf. That decided it; we’ve made more available for sale, at a non-egotistical $44.95 a bottle. If you’re a club member watch for this month’s delivery; we’ve held some back-vintage bottles just for you. OF VINES, VESSELS AND FACEBOOK
Every fall brings a world of experience to Malivoire. We’re always on the lookout for accomplished winemakers to help us through the fall harvest. Fortunately, we rarely have to look far, as we receive resumes every year from talented people who’d like to spend the crush season at Malivoire. This year our crush staff will have the services of two international Stagiaires, Elisa from the Verona region of Italy, and Geoffrey from Mâcon in France. Jill and Lee, from Niagara College and Brock University respectively, are our student interns, while Joel, a New Brunswick sommelier who helped us last year, has returned to continue his research into wine from ground to bottle.
If you haven’t yet found us on Facebook, please take a look. Shiraz and other staff are regularly posting photos and comments about the 2011 harvest. There’s no better way to follow the vintage at Malivoire than to “Like us” on Facebook, click here to see for yourself.
NOVEMBER EVENTS
Next month we’re repeating our annual series of November attractions, with different themes each Saturday. Special guests, including the “Cheesy Guys” and the “Manic Organic” Antony John, will coach tantalizing food and wine pairings. Just drop in; no reservations are needed. Watch too for a special pre-release of our stunning 2010 Old Vines Foch.
I purchased the pre-release 2010 Old Vines Foch last weekend on a wine tour weekend. Do you have taste notes/descriptions for the 2010, or is it the same/similar as the 2009?
