It’s been a while since I’ve written…

Who knew when I last sent out a newsletter in April that the pandemic would still be affecting most things in our day to day lives? I did not. But Covid-19 is here to stay for the next few months to a year + anyway (sigh). We’ve been keeping busy at Hooked, thanks to a terrific team of enthusiastic fishmongers and thanks to you, our amazing and supportive customers. I’ll fill you in on a few things we are working on, as well as let you know what’s going on in the land of Hooked.

Delivery and shops.
We’ve expanded our delivery service to better serve you in the GTA. We are now offering delivery service: Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Ordering is a cinch. Email Philip (who is lovely and many of you might remember from his fishmonger days at our Leslieville shop): customers@hookedinc.ca  or call and leave Philip a message: (416)825-9281

We have decided to keep shortened store hours for the next couple of months given the recent surge in cases.

Leslieville + Kensington: weekdays 12-6, Saturdays 11-6, Sundays 12-5
South Kingsway: daily 11-5
Danforth: daily 11-6, closed Mondays

New Website Launching Soon.
We’ve been hard at work to create a smarter, better way to shop for, and in turn, cook your fish. In the next month, we will share with you a beautiful and interactive new site that will enable to you to purchase all of the components of your chosen fish dish and have them DELIVERED, with one of our tried and true recipes. Dan and I are so excited for this!

Video Classes Dropping Before December.
We have recorded four of our most sought after classes, taught by Chef Deborah Reid. These will be available for purchase and download via our new site. They will include a full instruction video, ingredient shopping list and recipes.

The coolest part? We can do the shopping! You’ll be able to order the entire shopping list and have it delivered to you in time for when you’d like to ‘take your class’. We’ll even provide wine recommendations (sorry, not the wine). These classes will make terrific gifts.

Food Truck Takeover At The Cheese Boutique.
We recently met with the fellas from the Cheese Boutique and Charlie’s Burgers to talk events and fun business crossovers. There are a whole lot of ideas being mulled however, one certainty is that Hooked will take over the CB Food Truck on Ripley Ave at the end of October for a weekend! Dates and menu TBD, but I’ll be onsite cooking and Marco, our new Retail Director will be taking orders. Nate, our chef has offered to lend a hand too, so should be a terrific couple of days. A percentage of sales will go to Dixon Hall’s food programming in Regent Park. I’ll send out a note a few days ahead. We’d love to see you there.

Mi’kmaq Fishing Rights + The South N.S. Lobster Fishery.

Dan and I have been reading, listening and trying to understand. How is it that within a fishery (historically harmonious and cooperative between the Mi’kmaq nation and commercial fishers), violence, racism, vandalism plus a lack of action on the part of the Federal Government and the RCMP is even possible today?

After a day connecting with our circle of ecologists, biologists and industry friends, we prepared a  summary of our thoughts  to clarify our position on this matter.

As a sidenote, our lobster bisque uses lobster from Tignish, PEI. Always has.

We thank you for your continued support and encouragement. We are so fortunate to have so many wonderful people in our lives. Please stay safe, stay healthy and most of all, please continue to eat well!

Good food = good mood:)
